TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 48-year-old male office worker over the alleged rape of a woman at a hotel in Shinjuku Ward last year, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 17).
Just before 6:00 p.m. on December 28, Shingo Kameda allegedly threatened the woman, aged in her 20s, with a knife and sexually assaulted and injured her at the hotel, located in the Kabukicho red-light district.
“I’ll kill you if you don’t do it,” he reportedly threatened while holding the 10-centimeter-long knife.
The woman suffered unspecified injuries that took two weeks to heal, the Shinjuku Police Station said.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourse resulting in injury, Kameda denied the allegations. “I have no recollection of this at all,” he told police.

Kameda had previously been a customer at a bar where the woman worked.
According to police, Kameda invited her to the hotel after asking her to “go for a walk” on the street. After entering the hotel room, he pulled out the knife and threatened her in getting her to engage in sexual acts.
The incident came to light when the woman called police immediately after Kameda left the hotel. Kameda’s involvement emerged during an investigation of security camera footage.
