SAITAMA (TR) – To catch a thief — specifically, a women’s underwear thief.

Early Monday morning, Saitama Prefecture Police apprehended a 43-year-old man who had been ensnared in a trap set to nab a thief targeting women’s underwear, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 10).

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Makoto Kaizuka, a company employee, allegedly stole three pairs of women’s underwear that had been hung out to dry inside a residence in Iwatsuki Ward, Saitama City.

Police were alerted to the scene after the suspect tripped a homemade apparatus consisting of fishing line and a children’s toy that sounded an alarm upon activation by a trespasser.

The trap had been set by male resident of the home who had been the victim of a similar theft five days before.

“I’ve done this previously,” Kaitsuka told police in admitting to the allegations. “I have about 300 pairs (of women’s underwear).”
