Tokyo cops arrest masked man after bank robbery in Ueno

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested a 32-year-old man after a failed bank robbery in the Ueno area of Taito Ward, reports TBS News (Mar. 17).

At approximately 10:00 a.m., Shunshuke Tamada, attired in a mask, allegedly brandished a knife and demanded cash from a 29-year-old female teller at the Okachimachi branch of Tokyo Tomin Bank. After being given approximately one million yen, he fled the scene.

Bank employees then chased the suspect and threw paint balls at his legs as a means of identification. About 200 meters from the bank, he was apprehended inside a building stairwell by police apprehended after being told to drop the weapon.

Tamada, who has been charged with violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law, admits to the allegations.

There were no reports of injuries in the incident.
