TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a 41-year-old woman in her residence in Taito Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 28).

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, the body of the woman was found atop a sofa in the living room of the residence by her 15-year-old daughter. Her head had been wrapped in a towel.

Police arriving at the residence, located in the Taito area, confirmed the woman dead at the scene. Markings found on her neck were consistent with strangulation.

According to the results of an autopsy, the woman is believed to have died one or two days before the discovery of her body.

The woman lived with her daughter and 53-year-old husband in the residence. At the time of the discovery, the home had not been ransacked.

When the girl returned home from school at 1:30 p.m. that same day, she found her mother in the same position on the sofa. Several hours later, the girl then noticed that she was not breathing.

At the time of the discovery, the woman’s husband was absent from work.
