KAGOSHIMA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police have arrested three organized crime members as a part of a drug bust in Kagoshima City, reports Nippon News Network (Feb. 12).
At 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, officers took Hirotaka Tanaka, a 49-year-old member of the Yamaken-gumi, two other gangsters, and another man into custody for the possession of 100 kilograms of stimulant drugs (valued at seven billion yen) found inside a car carried by a ferry into Kagoshima Ferry Terminal.
The drugs, which were packed into 10 sandbags, are believed to have originated in the East China Sea via another vessel, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun (Feb. 12). The suspects then took possession of the cargo at sea and transported it to Tokunoshima Island before putting it inside the car and departing for Kagoshima.
The Yamaken-gumi is an affiliate gang of the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi, which formed last year following the dissolution of the Yamaguchi-gumi.
