NAGOYA (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested a 59-year-old man in the stabbing death of an elderly man in Minami Ward, reports TBS News (Nov. 23).

At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Fumio Kawasaki is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed the man, aged in his 70s, in the chest with a kitchen knife on a street in the Honjocho area. The victim was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital 45 minutes later.

Soon after the incident, Kawasaki was arrested inside a nearby apartment on charges of attempted murder. The suspect admits to the allegations.

A neighbor says that the suspect and victim had been involved in a number of conflicts in the past.

Aichi police are expected to change the charges against Kawasaki to murder.
