Shigeo Tokuda: World’s oldest porn star lives for lust, advocates adultery

The ability to maintain an active sex life as one reaches middle age and beyond is a topic frequently appearing in Japan’s vernacular media.

Championing the cause is Shigeo Tokuda, who Guinness cites as the world’s oldest porn actor.

In three months, reports Nikkan Gendai (May 6), the venerable performer will turn 80. But make no mistake, the soon-to-be octogenarian has no problems getting it up — and he encourages others to do so as well, for the good of society.

“Sexual desire is the same as the need for sleep or food,” says Tokuda. “Desire is a sign of good health. Gender and age are irrelevant. To consider having sex until one reaches age old age is a wonderful thing.”

Tokuda’s first experience with a woman came with his wife, whom he married at the age of 29. Three decades later, he became acquainted with the president of an adult video (AV) company.

In 2004, Tokuda, who formerly worked in the electrical appliance and travel industries, made his AV debut in the “Elderly” series of films for the label Glory Quest. Two years later, he began starring in films about a nurse caring for her father-in-law.

“Sex with a woman is communication,” says Tokuda. “Although I realized this concept through work, I came to understand it in greater depth through dating.”

As he works, he watches the responses of women. “I think about conversation in sounding out their sexual feelings,” he says. “Through this, the quickened beat of the heart gives a real burst of energy.”

For men, Tokuda says, regular ejaculation is necessary for proper hormone balances. But he is doing less of that these days — at least in films.

The overall industry is in a downturn. For performers, salaries are way down. Tokuda averages 10 appearances annually, a far cry from the 60 he commanded when he began his career.

Tokuda was born in Tokyo in 1934, when Japan was embroiled in turbulent times, both politically and socially. Sex, he says, was not a topic of conversation back then. But times have changed — and sex (or lack thereof) is a major issue for a greying population like Japan’s.

“Nowadays, community-based gatherings are the only forms of enjoyment people can experience once they lose their sex drives,” says the actor.

But, Tokuda says, time is better spent thinking of how to get into a lady’s pants than going to a community center for a gathering. He says that a monogamous relationship would be ideal but realizes that may not be suitable for people his age, and is an advocate of engaging in affairs for health reasons.

“For the elderly, adultery is necessary,” says Tokuda, who cautions that he does not wish to encourage illegal activities. “This would be a first step in maintaining an active sex life until one reaches middle age and beyond.” (K.N.)
