Yakuza crashes car into entrance of Nagasaki police station

OMURA, NAGASAKI (TR) – On Wednesday morning, a member of a criminal syndicate crashed a car into the front entrance the Omura Police Station, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 30).

Officers took Koichi Hatano, 43, a member of the Namikawa Mutsumi-kai, into custody on charges of destruction of property.

According to the Asahi Shimbun (Apr. 30), the suspect reeked of alcohol at the time of the incident, which resulted in a broken glass door. No injuries were reported.

Last November, officers from the Omura Police Station arrested Hatano for striking an employee at an izakaya restaurant. He was not prosecuted.

In October of last year, the Namikawa Mutsumi-kai formed following the dissolution of the Kyushu Seido-kai, which was based in Kyushu.

Police are now seeking a motive for the incident.
