Nagoya cop arrested for leaking information to yakuza group

NAGOYA (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police on Saturday arrested an inspector for allegedly leaking information to an affiliate of the Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan’s largest criminal organization, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Sept. 21).

Officers arrested Katsunori Kuraki, 55, an inspector within the first investigative division, for allegedly sharing confidential information with Yoshinori Sato, the manager of the Blue chain of fuzoku sex clubs in Nagoya.

Kuraki reportedly accessed a police database to convey information regarding vehicles used in investigations to Sato in August of last year — a violation of the Local Public Service Law regarding confidential data.

The suspect has reportedly admitted to the allegations.

Police were tipped off to Kuraki’s activities during an investigation into Sato, who was arrested in January for threatening an investigator of the Kodo-kai organized crime group over the phone in 2010.

Sato is a supporter of the Kodo-kai, which is an affiliate group of the Yamaguchi-gumi.

During testimony for the intimidation case in May, a former police officer said that roughly 10 officers, including himself, had had provided confidential information to the sex club operator in return for favors.

Sato was previously arrested in 2011 for assisting in concealing the identity of the number-two boss of the Kodo-kai so that he was able to play a round of golf. Sato received a prison term of two years and six months, which was suspended for four years.
