OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police on Tuesday apprehended a 45-year-old man after he broke into a dental clinic in Higashiosaka City armed with a knife that he turned on himself, reports TBS News (Jan. 13).
At around 5:00 p.m., Hiroyuki Kimura broke into the clinic and doused the director’s wife, aged in her 40s, with a liquid similar to gasoline. He then barricaded himself near a treatment room.
The woman was taken to a hospital with a minor eye injury, police said.
Approximately two and a half hours later, police stormed the building and arrested Kimura on suspicion of trespassing.
At some point during the incident, Kimura is believed to have cut his own neck with the knife he was carrying. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
The building where the incident occurred is three floors. The dental clinic is on the first floor.
The immediate area is lined with houses and restaurants, approximately 400 meters northeast of Kintetsu Fuse Station.
Kimura is a relative of the clinic’s 43-year-old director. Prefectural police are investigating whether there was any trouble between the two.
