Tokyo food and beverage employee admits to spending embezzled funds ‘at hostess clubs’

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a male employee accounting manager for a food and beverage company who is suspected of embezzling more than 100 million yen.

According to TBS News (Jan. 22), Mitsuru Mori, 52, admits to spending the embezzled funds “at hostess clubs.”

On multiple occasions over a six-month period starting in 2024, Mori allegedly embezzled transferred a total of approximately 23 million yen from the account of Zetton, located in Shibuya Ward, to his own account.

According to police, Mori was the accounting manager in charge of the company’s accounts. Upon his arrest, Mori admitted to the allegations.

“I spent the money at nightlife establishments like kyabakura,” he said in referring to hostess clubs. “I did it because I was unhappy with my working environment and became stressed.”

The crime was discovered following an internal whistleblower complaint in July of last year. Police believe that the total amount embezzled exceeds 100 million yen.

According to Zetton’s parent company, And S.T. Holdings, Mori is believed to have embezzled approximately 170 million yen over a five-year period starting in 2020.
