Tokyo boss accused of slashing subordinate’s head during meeting over ‘sloppy work’

TOKYO (TR) — Police have arrested a company manager in his 50s for allegedly slashing a subordinate in the head with a kitchen knife during a staff meeting in the Akihabara district, claiming he was fed up with the victim’s poor performance, reports the Sankei Shimbun> (May 19).

Officers from the Manseibashi Police Station arrested the suspect on the spot on suspicion of assault following the incident, which occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at a company office in the Sotokanda area of Chiyoda Ward.

According to investigative sources, the two men were in a company meeting when the suspect abruptly left to retrieve a kitchen knife from the office break room. He then returned and attacked the male subordinate, striking him in the head with the blade.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Upon his arrest, the suspect fully admitted to the allegations.

“He is always doing sloppy work, and I just snapped,” the suspect told investigators.

Police are currently investigating the daily working dynamic between the two men and the detailed circumstances leading up to the violent outburst.
