TOKYO (TR) – A luxury Swiss watch valued at 46 million yen that was stolen from a boutique in Nakano Ward last week has been returned to the shop via parcel delivery, accompanied by a letter of apology, reports TBS News (No¥v. 2).
The incident occurred on the evening of October 29 inside a watch shop located in the famed Nakano Broadway shopping complex.
According to police, a male customer entered the store and asked a clerk if he could try on an Audemars Piguet timepiece. Once the employee fastened the multi-million-yen watch to the man’s wrist, the suspect abruptly fled the premises.
Security camera footage captured the man sprinting from the scene with the expensive timepiece on his left wrist, prompting Tokyo police to launch a manhunt.
However, investigative sources revealed that the victimized store received a courier package containing the stolen Audemars Piguet. Store staff checked the serial number and confirmed it matched the purloined item.
Tucked inside the package alongside the watch was a note with a message to the effect of: “I am sorry.”
Investigators believe the parcel was shipped from within Aichi Prefecture.
Detectives are currently examining delivery records, surveillance footage, and forensic evidence from the package as they work to identify the sender and locate the suspect.
