Saitama man nabbed after corpse of missing woman found in apartment

SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a 53-year-old man after the corpse of a missing woman was found in his apartment in Niiza City, reports Nippon News Network (Jan. 10).

On January 9, police investigating the disappearance of Sanae Yamamoto, 51, found her body in the apartment. Police then accused the occupant of the residence, Arata Yamaguchi, of abandoning a corpse. He was sent him to prosecutors on Saturday.

Yamaguchi admitted to the charges during questioning. He also made statements implicating that he had murdered her.

According to police, Yamamoto’s family contacted them on January 7. “We don’t know where she is,” one member of the family said.

When police checked security camera footage near her home in Niiza, they observed her being taken away in a car by unknown assailant.

Subsequent investigations implicated Yamaguchi. When police searched his residence, Yamamoto’s body was found in the bathroom.

The two are believed to have known each other since around September of last year. In abducting her, it is believed that Yamaguchi ambushed Yamamoto near her home and took her in a car shortly after she returned home.

Police are investigating the possibility that Yamaguchi knew Yamamoto’s address and other details in advance.
