TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police launched an investigation after a man found collapsed and bleeding at an apartment building in Ota Ward on Thursday was confirmed dead, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Jan. 8).
At around 10:40 a.m., the manager of the apartment building called police. “I’ve come to a friend’s house, but I can’t get in touch with them. The door is locked,” caller said.
Officers from Omori Police Station rushed to the scene and found the man, believed to be in his 40s, collapsed and bleeding in the dining-kitchen area of a third-floor unit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was clothed from the waist up and lying face down. Bloodstains were found in the dining-kitchen area as well as in the hallway and entrance, police said.
Security camera footage and other methods have confirmed that the man returned home alone around 7:00 p.m. the day before. Friends had planned to have a meal with the man the next morning. However, he failed to show up.
The windows and front door were locked. As well, there were no signs that the room had been searched.
The crime scene is about 450 meters from JR Omori Station.
Police are treating the case as the result of foul play.
