Kumamoto garbage collector hit and killed by truck

KUMAMOTO (TR) – Kumamoto Prefectural Police launched an investigation after a garbage collector was hit and killed by a garbage truck in Kumamoto City on Monday, reports Nippon News Network (Jan. 12).

According to police, Koichi Wada, 63, was collecting garbage with his 71-year-old male colleague early Monday. It is believed that the colleague backed the truck up to move to another location and struck Wada.

Wada was taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead, police said.

When questioned by police, the colleague said, “I felt like I’d run over something, but I thought it was a curb.”

Police are currently investigating the details of the accident.
