TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a psychiatrist who runs a clinic in Shinjuku Ward for allegedly sexually assaulting a female patient last year.
This is not the first arrest of Jun Izawa, the 55-year-old director of Tokyo Clinic, located in the Kabukicho red-light district. In this latest case, he has been accused of non-consensual sexual intercourse, reports NHK (Apr.1).
At around 3:00 p.m. on August 8, Izawa is suspected of sexually assaulting a female patient, aged in her 20s, at the clinic. Upon his arrest on Monday, Izawa remained silent during questioning, police said.

According to police, the woman found Izawa’s clinic online and made an appointment by phone. At that time, Izawa allegedly told her that the consultation would be free.
After the consultation, Izawa took the woman to a pharmacy, received her medication and then returned to the clinic. He then said, “There is still a consultation to be done.” Afterward, he locked the door and committed the crime.
At the time, the woman said she thought, “It would be bad if I angered him.” She added, “If I resisted, he wouldn’t let me leave.”
History of exploitation
The suspect has a well-documented history of exploiting those under his care. Izawa has been convicted in multiple prior criminal cases where his own patients were the victims.
Due to his string of criminal convictions, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government revoked the clinic’s status as a designated “medical institution for self-reliance support” in last August. Despite this, Izawa had continued to practice medicine and see patients.
The woman’s boyfriend found this information online. On the day of the incident, he went to the Shinjuku Police Station with the victim to report it. The woman told police at the time that she had “lost faith in people and had her normal life taken away.”
Police are continuing its investigation to corroborate the allegations.
