Fujitsu chairman steps down over ‘inappropriate conduct’ involving woman

TOKYO (TR) – Tech giant Fujitsu on Tuesday announced the abrupt resignation of chairman Hidenori Furuta, citing his involvement in “inappropriate conduct” with a woman, reports TBS News (June 16).

Furuta was originally slated to be reappointed to the board of directors at the company’s general shareholders meeting scheduled for June 29. However, the company confirmed the inappropriate behavior shortly after sending out official notices for the gathering.

Following the revelation, Furuta offered his immediate resignation as chairman of the board and formally withdrew his candidacy for reappointment. Fujitsu accepted the resignation effective Tuesday.

Fujitsu has declined to disclose the specific details or nature of the inappropriate behavior, but a company representative stated that the matter has not developed into a criminal case at this time.

As a result of the sudden departure, the company will amend its agenda for the upcoming shareholders meeting, reducing the number of director nominees from ten to nine.
