TOKYO (TR) – Police have arrested a 44-year-old man from Fussa City who went on the run after allegedly beating a high school student with a hammer and spraying a chemical at responding officers earlier this week, reports TBS News (May 2).
Teruyuki Takabayashi is accused of attempted murder for allegedly striking a 17-year-old boy in the face multiple times with a hammer-like object near his home in Fussa on Wednesday.
When police arrived at the suspect’s home following the vicious assault, Takabayashi sprayed a pesticide-like substance at the officers before retreating inside his home.
After a standoff ensured, he fled the scene in a vehicle without being seen by officers as they waited outside.

According to investigators, Takabayashi managed to slip across the prefectural border, arriving in Narashino City, Chiba Prefecture, by 5:00 a.m. the morning after the attack.
Police could not confirm any further movement of his getaway car, leading them to believe he remained holed up in Narashino until he was finally tracked down and taken into custody on Friday.
During questioning, Takabayashi has exercised his right to remain silent, refusing to speak with investigators regarding the allegations.
