TOKYO (TR) – A man appearing to be a foreigner suddenly collapses to the floor on a train traveling through Yamanashi Prefecture. A female student who reaches out to help him get up seems confused. The man then stands up on his own and starts dancing to show off to the other passengers nearby.
A second male dancer also hits the floor of the carriage with some moves. He also grabs the metal support bars near the ceiling to suspend his body in front of the others on the train.
The scene described above is contained in a video by American TikTok star Shafar Delgado, who has 7 million followers. It was filmed on a Fujikyu Railway train and posted on social media earlier this month.
Fuji News Network (Oct. 24) refers to such content as “nuisance dance videos.” Delgado has posted several such clips during his trip to Japan, which is leading to some raised eyebrows.
As the above-mentioned clip continues, children who appear to be on their way to school look stunned at what is happening inside the carriage. As the dancing continues, some passengers are shown leaving.
In other videos, similar performances take place in Shibuya and Asakusa, Tokyo, both of which are often clogged with hundreds of pedestrians coming and going.
At the Scramble Crossing in Shibuya, a performer break dances in the street as pedestrians pass on both sides. A similar scene unfolds at Kaminarimon Gate in Asakusa.
The network points out that even foreign tourists seem were put off by the performance as they were seen running away.
Meanwhile, voices on Japanese media are saying the situation is a matter of cultural differences. “I understand that there are many different cultures, but I think there are people on the train who just want to sit quietly, so it’s a nuisance,” one person said.
The network requested an interview with Delgado but did not receive a response.
Fuji Sanroku Electric Railway commented, “We absolutely do not tolerate it. We are considering taking legal action.”
