OSAKA (TR) – Police here plan to refer a 26-year-old former medical intern to prosecutors for allegedly using a wristwatch camera to secretly film a pregnant woman just moments before she gave birth, investigative sources revealed, reports NHK (June 10).
Yuto Nakamichi, who had been dispatched from the Shiga Prefectural General Hospital to another medical facility in Shiga Prefecture, is suspected of capturing the illicit (tosatsu) footage in August of last year.
According to the Osaka Prefectural Police, Nakamichi used a miniature camera embedded in a wristwatch to record the victim while she was lying on a delivery table in the hospital’s maternity ward.
The breach of privacy came to light following Nakamichi’s arrest in February. He was initially taken into police custody for attempting to take upskirt photos of a woman at a commercial facility in Osaka City.
Although Nakamichi was subsequently released, authorities continued a voluntary investigation. During a search of his residence, investigators confiscated multiple wristwatch cameras. A review of the saved video files uncovered the footage of the pregnant woman in the delivery room.
Police finalized their decision to send Nakamichi’s case to prosecutors on Wednesday. He stands accused of violating the Law Banning the Taking of Sexually Explicit Photographs.
Investigative sources state that authorities intend to attach an opinion seeking “strict punishment,” pushing for a formal indictment over the severe violation.
