EHIME (TR) – Prosecutors have dropped charges against a man in his 60s accused of abandoning the skeletonized corpse of his wife inside their home here for roughly five years, reports TV Ehime (July 29).
The Matsuyama District Public Prosecutors Office decided on November 28 not to indict the unemployed man, who now resides in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, citing insufficient evidence.
The macabre case came to light on November 17 of last year when the man walked into a local police box in Shikokuchuo City and casually confessed, “There are two dead bodies in my house.”
Upon searching the man’s former residence, police discovered the skeletal remains of his wife lying face up in the kitchen, carefully concealed beneath multiple blankets and sheets. Investigators believed the woman died around 2018 and that the man knowingly left her remains to decompose for five years before turning himself in.
In a bizarre twist, a second skeletonized corpse was also discovered inside the home. Police identified the remains as a 73-year-old male acquaintance who had been living with the couple at the time.
While the corpse abandonment charges regarding his wife have been dropped, police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the second body found on the property.
