Brother-in-law suspected after Mie woman dies in stabbing in garden

MIE (TR) – Police have launched a murder investigation after a 53-year-old woman was stabbed to death at her residence in Yokkaichi City on Saturday, with her brother-in-law emerging as the prime figure in the case, reports Fuji News Network (May 17).

At around 9:00 a.m., police received a frantic emergency call from a man residing in the Kawashima-shinmachi area. The caller said, “My wife has been stabbed with a kitchen knife.”

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the caller’s wife, part-time worker Naomi Tanaka, collapsed in the garden of the property. She had sustained severe stab wounds to her chest and abdomen. Tanaka was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.

According to investigators, witnesses observed Tanaka involved in a heated altercation with her brother-in-law shortly before the fatal attack. A kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene.

The brother-in-law was also found bleeding from slash wounds, which police suspect are self-inflicted.

Investigators are currently waiting for him to recover from his injuries in the hospital before bringing him in for questioning regarding his involvement in the killing.
