TOKYO (TR) – Three people were injured on Tuesday after a substance with an “offensive smell” was sprayed inside a car of the JR Yamanote Line, reports the TV Asahi (July 19).
According to Tokyo Metropolitan Police, emergency services received a call about someone who had “sprayed something with an offensive smell” inside a train at Hamamatsucho Station at around 11:10 p.m.
Three persons, two men and one woman, complained of throat and skin irritations. They were sent to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to Nikkan Sports (July 20).
Following the detection of the spray, an emergency stop button was pressed, according to East Japan Railway. The train was later put out of service, and about 500 passengers transferred to another train.
Services on the line were delayed for about 16 minutes, inconveniencing around 4,000 passengers.
Officers from the Atago Police Station are investigating the case as an incident resulting in injury.
