KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 70-year-old man for the alleged murder of his 19-year-old daughter at their home in Yokohama City last month, reports Nippon News Network (Sep. 3).
On August 22, Masaaki Shimazaki allegedly used a knife-like weapon to fatally stab his second daughter, Mizuki, inside their residence.
The scene was discovered by a relative who had just returned home to find both the father and daughter collapsed and bleeding. According to police, Mizuki had sustained multiple stab wounds to her upper body, while Shimazaki had suffered a stab wound to his abdomen.
Shimazaki was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment. Following his recovery and discharge, police officially placed him under arrest on Thursday.
Investigators believe the incident was an attempted murder-suicide, with Shimazaki turning the blade on himself after attacking his daughter.
During police questioning, the suspect denied having murderous intent, reportedly telling investigators, “I did not intend to kill her.”
Authorities say there had been no previously confirmed reports of trouble between the father and daughter. Police are continuing to investigate the sequence of events and the motive leading up to the bloodshed.
