TOKYO (TR) – Following an incident in which a male taxi driver was threatened by a passenger holding a knife, Tokyo Metropolitan Police are seeking the help of the public in locating the man suspected in the crime, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 20).

On Thursday, police released dash cam footage showing the man who demanded 50,000 yen from the driver, 64, on a road in the Sengoku area of Koto Ward in June.

“I’ll kill you,” the man can be heard saying from the passenger seat after the driver refused. “What are you going on about?” the driver responded. “Cut the engine! Cut the engine!” the man then screamed. He then lunged for the driver who screamed, “Hold on!”

According to police, the man thrust a knife in front of the driver in the incident. He later fled the scene without paying the 5,480-yen fare.

The driver was not injured in the incident.

In the clip, the man is seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, jeans and glasses. Standing approximately 170 centimeters in height, he is believed to be in his 30s.

Update: Police have arrested 49-year-old Taichi Isami on charges of robbery, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 22).
