Officers took Tomoki Maeda, a 48-year-old employee at parlor Five, located near JR Gotanda Station, for allegedly allowing customers to place wagers on 10 high-return poker machines deemed in violation of the law.
Maeda has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “I earn about 10,000 yen per day. Since I had no other option, I kind of got dragged into it,” the suspect is quoted by police, according to TBS News (July 3).
Customers, of which there were two inside at the time of the raid, played with points priced at 10 yen each. Since June of 2012, the operation collected 48 million yen in revenue.
Five was licensed as a game center. In order to evade detection, a security camera and steel door at the entrance allowed for the monitoring of customers entering the premises.
