NIIGATA (TR) – Niigata Prefectural Police are seeking the whereabouts of a third-year middle school girl from Tokamachi City who went missing earlier this week.
According to police, Marin Higuchi, 14, was last seen in the living room of her home at around 7:30 pm on Monday.
Her smartphone, wallet, shoes and jacket were left behind at home.

With a slim build, Higuchi stands approximately 154 centimeters tall. She has semi-long black hair. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a navy blue sweater and light blue denim pants.
Higuchi lives in an area that includes Shinza Station, one station northeast of the town center.
“The day she disappeared, there wasn’t any special note or anything like that. I thought she’d cleared away the dishes, prepared the bath as usual, and then taken a bath. But I hope she’s safe and that we’ll find her somewhere,” her father said to Fuji News Network (Jan. 28).
According to the police, Higuchi had been spending time with her family in the living room of their home until around 7:20 p.m. on Monday.
However, 10 minutes later, around 7:30 p.m., she disappeared. About 20 minutes later, her family called police to report that she had gone missing.
According to her father, Higuchi had been recuperating at home due to illness since around the end of 2025.
Police are checking security camera footage and conducting searches around the home.
Persons with information on the case are advised to contact the Niigata Tokamachi Police Station at 025-752-0110.
