OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police believe that a man took his life by leaping from a bridge in Suita City on Monday after fatally stabbing his wife and their two young children at their nearby residence, reports Nippon News Network (June 2).
At around 6:20 a.m., a female jogger alerted emergency services from the edge of a footbridge next to a peripheral road for the Expo Commemoration Park. “A man is collapsed and bleeding from the back of his head,” she reported.
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene. The man was confirmed dead on the spot. A bicycle was found on the ground near the bridge, which led police to conclude that he fell from the deck.
At around 7:40 a.m., police visited the man’s apartment in Aobaoka Minami and a woman and two girls collapsed inside. They were confirmed dead at the scene.
The three were found face-up on a bed in the bedroom. All three had suffered wounds to their abdomens that appeared to have been caused by a blade.
A bloodstained knife with a blade length of about 20 centimeters was found on a side table near the foot of the bed.
A 26-year-old man, his wife, also 26, and their daughters, aged 1 and 2, live in the residence. Police found a letter believed to have been written by the man on the kitchen table. The content of the letter was an apology to his family.
Police have yet to confirm the identities of the persons in the case. But they believe that the man fatally stabbed his family members before leaving the residence and taking his life by plunging from the footbridge.
