Former gang boss arrested in Tokyo for possession of three guns
Police discovered 2 revolvers, 1 automatic pistol, and 16 rounds of ammunition
TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a former boss of the Kyokudo-kai criminal organization in Machida City for gun possession, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 27).

Kim Sung-kil, a 62-year-old of Korean ancestry, was taken into custody on Monday for violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law after officers from the metropolitan police’s organized crime division discovered two revolvers, one automatic pistol, and 16 rounds of ammunition during a search of a vehicle in Kanagawa Prefecture on November 11.

Kim has reportedly denied knowledge of the weapons, which were hidden in a paper bag and Styrofoam box.

According to investigators, the search was related to the arrest of a 36-year-old subordinate for a type of extortion termed mikajimeryo, or the collection of protection money on the third day of the month.

Kim had been banished from the Kyokudo-kai since September 2009 but still maintained a working relationship with members of other criminal organizations, with the collection of mikajimeryo being a regular activity, police said.
