TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a 28-year-old member of a bosozoku motorcycle gang for assaulting an Indonesian tourist in the Kabukicho red-light district of Shinjuku Ward, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 1).

On August 14, 2013, Li Zhaohui, a member of Dragon who was working as a street tout for an adult-entertainment parlor, is alleged to have assaulted the tourist, a 36-year-old male, during an argument over a price for a sex service. The victim suffered severe injuries, including a skull fracture.

Li denies the charges.

Dragon is composed of second- and third-generation returnees from China who came to Japan after the end of World War II.

In 2013, the National Police Agency began classifying bosozoku gangs as “pseudo-yakuza” groups to better reflect the true state of their activities.

The day after the incident, Li fled to China. The suspect was apprehended at Narita International Airport upon his return to Japan in September of this year.
