TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating what is believed to have been a murder-suicide after the bodies of a man and his wife were found inside their residence in Machida City, reports Jiji Press (May 10).

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, a man telephoned police to report that his father, Kunio Oniki, 92, was collapsed on a bed in the residence, located in the Naruse area, and his mother, 87-year-old Sumiko, was hanging from her neck with a cord on the balcony.

Officers from the Machida Police Station arriving at the scene confirmed both persons dead.

Kunio had been suffering from foot and eye discomfort and receiving care from Sumiko.

A will found at the scene, presumably written by Sumiko, read: “I am sorry that I cannot take care of you. Let’s go to the afterlife together.”

Police suspect that Sumiko strangled her husband to death before taking her own life by hanging herself with a vinyl cord.
