TOKYO (TR) – An American man suspected of repeatedly carrying out hit-and-run incidents across the capital earlier this month has told police that the crimes “felt like a video game,” reports TBS News (Feb. 27).
The arrest is the second for the 41-year-old American. On February 14, he is suspected of driving a stolen truck without a license and hitting a male motorcyclist on a street in Edogawa Ward.
The victim suffered injuries that will take two weeks to heal.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of negligent driving without a license and causing injury, the suspect denied the allegations. He said, “I was driving to Narita Airport. When I had the accident, I felt like I was in a video game; I couldn’t tell if it was real.”
About an hour before the incident in Edogawa, the truck was stolen in Chiyoda Ward. It is then believed to have subsequently caused a total of seven hit-and-run accidents in Bunkyo, Taito and Edogawa wards.
The American later abandoned the truck and fled the scene. However, he was apprehended approximately 400 meters away by police.
Two days later, police first arrested the suspect on suspicion of hit-and-run over the aforementioned case in Edogawa.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incidents in detail.
