TOKYO (TR) – The Tokyo Fire Department announced on Thursday suspended two male firefighters for assault incidents that occurred over the past four months, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 10).

On April 5, a 45-year-old firefighter from the headquarters of the 6th Division, located in Taito Ward, sexually assaulted a prostitute in a love hotel in Okegawa City, Saitama Prefecture. Saitama Prefectural Police later arrested the fireman on charges of rape.

The department originally suspended the firefighter from duty for six months, but he indicated that he would voluntarily resign.

Receiving a two-month suspension was a 47-year-old firefighter from the Shimura Fire Station who hit a subordinate colleague in the face inside a restaurant in Nishi Ikebukuro in February. A court fined him 200,000 yen for the incident.
