TOKYO (TR) – Popular adult video (AV) actress Ririko Kinoshita had been living a double life. For years, she hid her career in the AV industry from her husband.
In an interview with Spa! (Aug. 15), she reveals the dramatic details of the ruse, admitting that the cover-up initially drove their marriage to the brink of collapse.
“So moved by the creative space”
Kinoshita, 40, made her debut in March 2020 at the age of 34 under the prestigious Madonna label, a brand famous for featuring jukujo actresses, or mature, married women. However, unlike many of her peers, Kinoshita’s “housewife” status was no gimmick — she was genuinely married, and took the plunge without breathing a word to her spouse.
Driven by a creeping anxiety over aging, Kinoshita said she desperately wanted to preserve her figure on film before she grew older. Her bizarre initial attempts to immortalize her body included cold-calling a love doll manufacturer to beg them to use her as a model — a request that was swiftly rejected.
Eventually, she walked into an adult talent agency with the intention of shooting “just one video” in secret. But upon arriving on set, Kinoshita was entirely captivated by the professional and creative environment.
“I was so moved by the creative space. I got to the point where I almost thought, ‘Who cares about my husband?'” she recalled.
Icy relationship
However, the guilt of her clandestine shoots soon took a toll. The couple’s relationship, which had already been cooling prior to her debut, turned distinctly icy. Burdened by her secret and feeling neglected at home, Kinoshita finally reached a breaking point two years into her career.
“I declared, ‘I’m going to live the way I want to live!’ and confessed to being a sexy actress,” she said.
The bombshell revelation hit her husband hard. “He was in a daze for about a week,” Kinoshita admitted. While he tried to remain kind, the shock left him suffering from severe insomnia and emotional instability as he struggled to process his wife’s secret sex work.
Won her husband over
Yet, against all odds, the crisis eventually saved their marriage. Watching Kinoshita passionately pursue her career while still managing her domestic life gradually won her husband over.
“He saw my dedication, and little by little, our cold relationship started to warm up,” she said. Today, her husband fully supports her lucrative career, sometimes even expressing awe at the physical toll her shoots take on her body. “If I hadn’t become an actress, our marriage might have completely frozen over. The bond we have now wouldn’t exist.”
Ex-boyfriend
Six years into her career, Kinoshita has released photo books, appeared in pink films, and no longer fears the physical decline of her 30s.
While her mother and sister are in on the secret, Kinoshita says her father remains officially in the dark—though she suspects he knows she is up to “something shady.” Meanwhile, her past has occasionally caught up with her online; a cheating ex-boyfriend who originally introduced her to adult videos recently slipped into her direct messages after recognizing her on X.
“I just thought, ‘It took you six years to notice? You should check your videos more closely!'” she laughed.
