MIYAGI (TR) – Miyagi Prefectural Police on Wednesday announced the break up of a large drug-dealing operation run by an organized crime member in Sendai City, reports Nikkan Sports (April 13).
Prefectural police working with a Tohoku drug control division have arrested Akira Takeda, a 56-year-old upper-level member of the Sumiyoshi-kai, and four other members of the ring for violating narcotic and stimulant drug control laws regarding illegal sales.
A construction worker from Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture was among 68 customers of the ring also apprehended by law enforcement.
Takeda is now under prosecution for the alleged sale of 0.5 grams of kakuseizai, or stimulant drugs, to a man near a convenience store in Sendai’s Aoba Ward on October 30 of last year. The defendant denies the charges.
Between February of 2014 and November of last year, the ring collected approximately 70 million yen in sales, according to TBS News (April 14).
