OSAKA (TR) – Police in Osaka City have arrested a 27-year-old member of the Yamaguchi-gumi criminal syndicate for allegedly assaulting an acquaintance with a katana (Japanese sword), reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 11).
Mitsushi Nakamatsu, a resident of Tsurumi Ward, is accused of threatening and attacking the male acquaintance, aged in his 30s, inside a moving vehicle in Osaka City in early January.
During the ordeal, Nakamatsu allegedly threatened the victim. He said, “I’ll bury you in Okayama,” before striking him in the head with a metal bat and a Japanese sword, which police noted measured 140 centimeters in length.
The violent extortion continued at a second location. There, the suspect reportedly told the man, “Go to Mount Ikoma. I’ll kill you there,” while continuing to beat him with the metal bat. Nakamatsu then robbed the victim of 800,000 yen in cash and an ATM card.
According to Osaka Prefectural Police, the violence escalated further when Nakamatsu pressed a kitchen knife against the victim’s abdomen. “Will you commit seppuku to take responsibility?” he queried in referring to ritual disembowelment.
Police arrested Nakamatsu on Monday on suspicion of robbery. Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect has admitted to the allegations.
