Tokyo cops raid Kabukicho yakuza office over alleged drug sales to Aska

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Wednesday searched an office of an affiliate gang of the Sumiyoshi-kai in Shinjuku Ward over the alleged sale of drugs to singer Aska, reports Nippon News Network (Sept. 10).

With riot police providing a barricade, investigators at around 10:00 a.m. entered an office of the Daisho-kai located in the Kabukicho entertainment area. Officers also searched one other location affiliated with the gang in the ward.

On August 21, Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced the arrest of two suspects, including Takahiko Yasunari, a 47-year-old member of the Daisho-kai, for the alleged sale of 100 tablets of MDMA (also known as Ecstasy) to Asaka for 500,000 yen in March.

According to police, Aska, 56, whose real name is Shigeaki Miyazaki, indicated that he also purchased stimulant drugs from the gang, whose office is known casually as the “Shinjuku Pharmacy.”

On May 17, officers first arrested Aska, one half of the pop duo Chage and Aska, and 37-year-old acquaintance Kasumi Tochinai for possessing stimulant drugs at her apartment in Tokyo in April.

Police served the singer with a fresh arrest warrant on May 27 for using stimulant drugs. During a search of his home, officers found 90 MDMA pills.

On August 28, Aska plead guilty to drug use and possession charges at the Tokyo District Court.
