CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police on Tuesday morning searched the residence of the top boss of an organized crime group for holding an event to garner support of a prefectural assembly candidate prior to the official start of campaign-related activities, reports TBS News (June 9).
At approximately 10:00 a.m., 50 officers entered the Kashiwa City home of Isao Seki, the 69-year-old head of the Sumiyoshi-kai, in search of evidence connected to a meeting held at a “snack” hostess club in Isumi City in early March for supporters and voters of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Masakazu Koji.
According to the Public Office Election Law, campaigning extends for a 12-day period prior to the poll. The Chiba Prefectural Assembly election, in which Koji was victorious in the Isumi precinct, took place on April 12.
On Sunday, Seki was arrested along with construction executive Hiroyoshi Iizuka, 68, and one other suspect. According to TV Asahi (June 9), the group gathered under the pretext of a school alumni meeting.
