Officers took Akihito Teramura, a 44-year-old economics reporter, into custody for allegedly paying 35,000 yen to a 16-year-old girl for an illicit encounter at a love hotel in Shinjuku Ward’s Kabukicho red-light district on August 19 of last year.
The suspect, who currently works in the Fukuoka bureau of the Yomiuri, has reportedly admitted to the allegations.

“The arrest is extremely regrettable,” said a representative of the Yomiuri Group, which publishes the Yomiuri. “After checking the facts of the case, we will deal with the matter very harshly.”
