TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested two South Korean nationals over their alleged roles in a violent, foiled robbery targeting a precious metals dealer nearly two decades ago, reports Fuji News Network (Sep. 16).
Noh Hyung-dong, 29, and Kim Tae-ho are accused of attacking male employees of a precious metals purchasing shop on a street in Taito Ward’s Matsugaya district in November 2018.
According to police, the suspects doused the victims with pepper spray in a desperate attempt to snatch a bag containing approximately 47 million yen in cash.
Following the botched heist, Noh and Kim immediately fled Japan and returned to South Korea. Two other South Korean men were previously arrested in connection with the same incident.
Upon his arrest, Kim denied the allegations, reportedly telling investigators, “I did not commit the [attempted] robbery.”
Tokyo police continuing its investigation, operating under the belief that further accomplices may be involved in the crime ring.
