TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have referred Hiroki Tsuzuki, a 29-year-old member of the popular comedy trio Yonsen Toshin, to prosecutors on suspicion of groping and assaulting a woman at an event venue in the capital, investigative sources revealed, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Aug. 18).
The charges stem from an incident late at night in late June. According to police, Tsuzuki allegedly touched the face and fondled the lower body of a woman in her 20s from over her skirt at a Tokyo event space. The two were not previously acquainted.
The victim consulted with the Metropolitan Police Department in July, prompting an investigation into violations of the Tokyo Metropolitan Nuisance Prevention Ordinance and assault.
During voluntary questioning, Tsuzuki largely admitted to the allegations, blaming his actions on intoxication.
“I was drunk and my memory is vague, but after asking the people around me, I realized what I had done, and I deeply regret it,” he was quoted as telling investigators.

In response to the scandal, his talent agency, Watanabe Entertainment, announced on its official website that Tsuzuki has been suspended indefinitely.
“We sincerely apologize for causing immense trouble and discomfort to the victim,” the agency said in a statement.
The remaining two members of Yonsen Toshin will continue their activities as a duo for the time being. The group previously gained national prominence after advancing to the semifinals of the prestigious “M-1 Grand Prix” comedy competition in 2019.
