OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police investigating the grisly murder of a 53-year-old woman whose body was found dumped on a barge in Osaka City have recovered the corpse of her missing husband from the nearby sea, investigative sources revealed, reports TBS News (July 25).
On July 15, the body of Mayumi Yokozeki, a part-time worker from Minato Ward, was discovered on a materials barge moored under the Namihaya Ohashi bridge in Taisho Ward.
According to police, Yokozeki was found wearing light green pajamas. Both of her legs were broken, her face showed signs of blood congestion, and the skin around her neck was severely discolored.
An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation. She had been strangled with a string-like object and is believed to have died around midnight on July 15. Based on the condition of the body, police immediately launched a homicide investigation.
Search for husband
Authorities had been desperately searching for Yokozeki’s husband, with whom she lived, after being unable to reach him following the discovery of his wife’s body. Sources now say his corpse was found floating in the waters near the crime scene.
Further tying him to the incident, a vehicle registered in the husband’s name was found abandoned near the location where Yokozeki’s body was discovered.
Yokozeki was last seen alive on the night of July 12 — three days before her body was found —when a colleague confirmed she had clocked out and left her workplace.
Police are now carefully investigating the sequence of events that led to the deaths of the couple, looking into any potential domestic trouble or motives that may have triggered the fatal incident.
