HOKKAIDO (TR) – Police here have arrested a 57-year-old company employee on suspicion of home invasion and assault after he allegedly broke into an apartment and attacked a young man he had never met, reports HTB News (June 16).
Hiroyuki Horikawa is accused of entering a fourth-floor apartment in a four-story building in the town of Shiraoi at around 6:30 p.m. on June 9.
Once inside, Horikawa allegedly grabbed the 23-year-old male resident by the arm and violently slammed him against a wall.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his forehead and arm in the unprovoked attack.
According to police, the victim shares the apartment with his 55-year-old mother, who was not at home during the incident. Neither the mother nor the son had any prior acquaintance with the suspect.
The crime came to light shortly after the incident when the mother and son went to a local police box to seek help. “An unknown man came into our home and beat me,” the victim told officers.
Authorities are currently investigating Horikawa’s motive, as well as how he gained access to the residence and whether the front door had been left unlocked.
