TOKYO (TR) – Police are hunting for two men who assaulted a 60-year-old Chinese woman and robbed her of approximately 8 million yen in cash on a street in the Ikebukuro district, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 11).
According to the Ikebukuro Police Station, the brazen attack occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on June 10. The two suspects approached the victim, sprayed her with what appeared to be pepper spray, and struck her on the back of the head.
The assailants then snatched her shoulder bag and fled the scene. The woman, who sustained head injuries in the assault, told investigators that the bag contained the massive sum of cash.
The incident took place on a sidewalk northwest of JR Ikebukuro Station in Toshima Ward, a bustling area lined with numerous restaurants and bars.
Officers are currently pursuing the fleeing suspects on suspicion of robbery resulting in bodily injury.
