Hokkaido zoo worker accused of incinerating wife’s body says she suspected him of having affairs

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have re-arrested a 33-year-old employee of the popular Asahiyama Zoo on suspicion of murdering his wife.

The suspects, Tatsuya Suzuki, claims she suspected him of having affairs, reports TBS News (May 24).

Suzuki is accused of killing his wife, Yui, at their residence in Asahikawa City on the night of March 31.

Upon his re-arrest, Suzuki, who last month was accused of burning her corpse in the zoo’s incinerator, admitted to the allegations.

“I strangled her to death with a rope,” he reportedly told investigators, adding that the altercation was sparked because his wife suspected him of having relationships with other women.

During the investigation, a heavily damaged smartphone believed to belong to Yui was discovered on the zoo’s premises. Police suspect Suzuki smashed the device in an attempt to erase its data and conceal evidence of his motive.

Suzuki has already been indicted on charges of damaging and abandoning a corpse. He previously admitted to disposing of his wife’s remains by burning her body in a waste incinerator located inside the zoo.
