SAGA (TR) – A former Saga Prefectural Police officer has been referred to prosecutors after faking a bomb threat at a local restaurant simply because he dreaded attending his own farewell party, reports TV Asahi (May 18).
In March, a restaurant in Saga City received a threatening phone call from a man who instructed staff to “look at the entrance.” Outside, employees discovered a handwritten note claiming an explosive device had been planted on the premises.
The establishment had been booked that day to host a farewell party for local police personnel. Among the guests of honor was a senior officer in his 20s who was slated to leave the force at the end of the month.
However, subsequent investigations led police right back to their own ranks. Detectives soon identified the 20-something officer meant to be sent off as the prime suspect behind the threat.
When questioned about his motive, the officer gave a blunt confession: “I didn’t want to attend the farewell party.”
Saga Prefectural Police declined to comment on whether the officer had previously expressed dissatisfaction with his workplace or struggled with interpersonal relationships at the station. However, a police spokesperson maintained that the incident was “not a crime committed out of a grudge against the prefectural police.”
The officer’s case has been referred to prosecutors. He was handed a disciplinary punishment and has since voluntarily resigned from the force.
