KANAGAWA (TR) — Police and fire officials are investigating an incident in which an unidentified spray was released aboard a moving JR Tokaido Line train on Sunday afternoon, reports TV Asahi (May 10).
At approximately 4:30 p.m., an emergency 119 call alerted authorities that a substance had been dispersed inside the train cars as it traveled through Kawasaki City.
The affected train was brought to a halt at JR Kawasaki Station, prompting a massive response from local authorities. A fleet of more than 20 ambulances and emergency vehicles rushed to the scene to assist.
Details regarding the nature of the spray or whether any passengers sustained injuries remain unknown as police and fire personnel continue to assess the scene.
The incident has caused immediate disruptions to the rail network. Operations on the up-bound Tokaido Line between Yokohama and Shinagawa stations have been suspended, with JR officials stating there is currently no estimated time for service to resume.
