Vietnamese man arrested over ¥2 million toy gun robbery at credit union

GUNMA (TR) – Police have arrested a 35-year-old Vietnamese national accused of robbing a credit union in Kiryu City of 2 million yen using a toy gun earlier this year, reports TBS News (May 7).

In February, the suspect entered the financial institution, pointed what appeared to be a handgun at a female employee, and fled with the cash.

Following a months-long investigation, police on Thursday arrested Luu Huu Phuc, a man of unknown occupation, on suspicion of robbery.

Luu emerged as a primary suspect after a vehicle believed to have been used in his getaway was discovered abandoned in a forested area of Kiryu City three days after the heist.

Upon his arrest, Luu admitted to the allegations, reportedly telling investigators, “I committed the crime because I was desperate for money.”

During the course of the investigation, police confirmed that the weapon the suspect used to threaten the bank teller was merely a toy gun.
