Crime ring recruiter arrested over attempted home invasion in Tokyo

TOKYO (TR) — Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested two 23-year-old men, including a suspected recruiter for a loosely organized crime syndicate, over an attempted robbery at a residence in Koto Ward earlier this year, reports TBS News (May 2).

The newly arrested suspects are identified as Koichi Kitayama and Rui Nishimura, both of unknown occupation. They face charges including attempted robbery.

According to police, the incident occurred on the night of March 20. The suspects broke into a combined residence and office in the Shiomi area with the intent of stealing cash and valuables.

Three other men who allegedly carried out the actual break-in were previously arrested in connection with the crime.

Investigators suspect Kitayama operated as a recruiter for a tokuryu ring, which is an anonymous syndicate that uses social media to gather disposable perpetrators for robberies and scams.

Police are currently probing the suspects’ potential involvement in a string of other crimes linked to the shadowy syndicate.
